KIMBERLY SIMPSON

BCSLA, CSLA

Kimberly is a landscape architect with over ten years of experience in the field. Based on Salt Spring Island, she works on projects across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Her design philosophy is regionally informed, and both culturally and ecologically responsive. It is grounded in a framework that favors simplicity, sustainability, and the honest use of materials.

In planting design, her approach is maximalist—striving for plant and habitat diversity and resilience—because diversity is abundance, and diversity is beautiful. This passion for site-responsive planting is deeply informed by a love of wild landscapes and immersive natural experiences.

Her specialty lies in site-sensitive planting and playspace design. She creates immersive environments that calm the nervous system, evoke awe and wonder, cultivate a strong sense of place and community, and invite exploration.

With an impeccable sense of what makes for strong urban design, she approaches every project by asking: What would it feel like to inhabit and move through this space every day? How can we make it an extraordinary amenity for everyone who lives here?

Her work is grounded in principles of inclusivity and universal design, with a belief that spaces for people and wildlife can and should be mutually beneficial. She embraces diversity, sensory experience, and everyday play as essential elements of design.

At the heart of her practice is a commitment to restoring ecological function and embedding cultural relevance—an ethos she brings to every project type and design challenge.

She has professional project management experience across a wide range of projects, varying in scale, complexity, and budget. Her portfolio includes multi-family residential, mixed-use, commercial, and public spaces. From community engagement and site planning to custom play design, Kimberly brings a well-rounded skill set. She excels at collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver thoughtful and unique design solutions.

Kimberly holds a master's degree in landscape architecture from the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia, and a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with a print media major from the Alberta University of the Arts. She currently serves as a member of the Saanich Advisory Design Panel.

Kimberly's is a design practice that prioritizes continual evolution, collaboration and learning.
